Written by Anjani Thomas
Based on the poem "Kanaloa" (Island of many names) by Delaina Thomas
'O Kanaloa nui o ka moana
O Kanaloa, god of the ocean
Ko'olua I ka pae 'opua
This was your lover in a sea of clouds
Hiki mai ka pu'ali malihini
Then soldiers used her body
E ho'olilo I kona pono
For target practice through the war
Ho'eha pau'ole, he huli kua
They would not leave her, nor listen
He'ai ho'okano a ke kolea
The military had top priority
Kalai hewa 'ia ka honua
They carved her 'aina with guns and missiles
Ho'opuehu wale ka puana
And left a minefield as legacy
Kanaloa, Kahikimoe
Kanaloa, Kahikimoe
Ua ala hou mai nei makou
We have awakened on this place
Me ke aloha Kaho'olawe
You are cherished, Kaho'olawe
A kau hou mai ka maluhia
We will not rest until you're safe
Poina 'ole na lei 'elua
George and Kimo are remembered
I na hana nui ho'opakele
For their quest to set you free
Nana e ho'oulu a'e ana
They inspired a generation
E ho'iho'i I kona hano
To restore your dignity
Kahikimoe, moe ke keiki
Kahikimoe, the child is sleeping
'o'ili mai I ke kau 'opua
Born in a sea of clouds
Li'a nei pu'uwai e Kahikimoe
Our hearts are yearning, Kahikimoe
E 'ike I ke alo hemolele
To see you clear of the scars
Ha'ina 'ia mai ana ka puana
The story is told
No ka moku I aloha 'ia
Beloved island of many names
Kohemalamalamaokanaloa
Kohemalamalamaokanaloa
Noho mai 'oe me ka hiehie
Still you reign in sacred grace
