A harsh wind whistles, a darkness takes root
I grow pale as I realize my perilous plight
I'm stuck battling branches and dueling with dragons
I'm lost in these woods lit by stars that don't sparkle
They just glare down at me like eyes of some spider
If I step over this next brook that whirls past my feet
Will I escape from this cold place to red sunset skies?
Or am I doomed to this gray till I grow old and die?
Nothing is shining, nothing is green
The fairies are gone, but I keep walking
Brushing past bark as I look for a path
That I hope will lead out to some magical realm far beyond this forest
When this journey started it wasn't so misty
There were willows and there were wizards to help me contend
But the trees became gnarled, the wizards turned black
And their ghostly forms rode off into the distance
Now I laugh just to think that the streams were once safe
'Cause they charge through this forest like mad, insane horses
And I'm running from evil dwarves, threatening with axes
To twist my soul 'till its mourning within
But I see a light shining, distant and green
Am I walking toward the home of the fairies?
I tear down a path strewn with bark and leaves
I hope I can reach this magical realm before I'm gone
