Even though HIP HOP was born some time before I was,
I really feel like I was raised in those times, coz' I..
Smelt the freshness,
Felt the jams and heard the deafness, yeah.
The DJ's, the rhymers,
The B-Boys, the writer's.
Beatbox & G'zelle's,
Pete Rock & CL.
Whole trains & Wild Style,
That "so 80's" lifestyle.
Krush Groove & Beat Street,
The one two's & free speech.
It got me addicted and changed my perspective,
I started to live it and love the objective.
I listened to classics & watched all the clips,
Nas's "Illmatic"...Jay's "Dead Presidents".
From BDP to BCC, ayo...B.I.G. & D.I.T.C..
Rakim Allah, yeah...the GOD by far,
Guru & Preemo...The Gang to the Starr.
RUN DMC...the kings from queens,
& The Beasties...teams of threes.
Public Enemy & EPMD,
METHOD and that man RED.
NWA...true gangsta talk,
The doctor named Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg,
KRS-ONE, yeah he taught me a lot.
I can't forget about De La Soul,
Positive messages & daisy flows.
"Beats,Rhymes & Life" by Ali, Tip & Phife.
Wu-Tang Clan, "The 36 Chambers",
Brand Nubian, How I love "The Foundation",
But Hip Hop is not what it is today..
And that's what we gotta tell the kids today,
Coz' the younger generation j...j...just don't know..
That the G..G..G..G-Unit ain't the way to go.
So we gotta kick the truth to the young rap youth,
Help them pick and choose and respect The Roots,
Yeah...Respect The Roots.
And when I say The Roots,
I do not only mean the roots of the c**ture and the music,
But also THE ROOTS as a group.
Yeah, I Mos Def couldn't forget about the inspirational, the sensational,
THE LEGENDARY from Illadelph..
And also can't forget about all the other Gods & Godesses.
All the marvelous artists, who paved the way,
Yeah you know there's way too many names to say.
I guess my statement's made.
I always did love H.E.R.
I still love H.E.R.
And always will love H.E.R.
Who I'm Talkin''bout ya'll is HIP HOP.
Ps.Indeed.
I had to say REST IN PEACE to my man JAY DEE.
Mr.JAMES YANCEY, for changin' my life, I greatly THANK THEE.
