not without beauty
nothing but the sea beyond his eyes

drown in distant stars
their poison cool and warm their light I feel
wide open empty eyes
the black could take me
I do not want to know
the night could keep me
I fear not to stay
like water listening weak spirit ends
for all sound was a nightside key
here I lay down my weary wounds
and wash them clean from questions asked before

half awake, half asleep
war was not meant for him
peace neither
he remained beyond a wounded world

a vacant garden Eden
morning light
and sadness water could not wash away

he thought he heard her voice again

musing on stars
in broad daylight
a broken man, withered and aged

the emptiness remained
hunting voices sing
and aim their scorn at him
a dying man
all life's ashes stuck to his face

no water cool enough
