I was taking a stroll one day
I was at a bit of a loose end
I didn't know whether I was coming or going
I'd taken a wrong turn not only in direction but in lifestyle as well
I ended up in a dark, narrow alleyway with nothing inside but a small pink neon sign
I was drawn towards the light like a fly towards a fluorescent tube
On the way down the steps, a neuron was eating at my senses
There were people lying and dying in doorways
As I read the sign, a rush of excitement grabbed me as the sign read "The Freak Show"
I tried to gain entry but to no avail
Whatever brain this man had was clenched firmly in his fist
When I asked what the problem, the man said you can't get in dressed like that
Dressed like what I asked
The man said well I had a nice floral shirt and faded denims
After much confrontation and a backhander
I finally gained entrance
I head down the stairway which seems endless.
Welcome to the Freak Show!
Welcome to the Freak Show!
Welcome to the Freak Show!
Everybody is welcome.
Everybody was wearing black
I was sticking out like an ingrowing toenail
I was getting strange looks from some very strange people
This looked like they'd been to hell and back, dragged there backwards, feet first
They were both laughing and crying at the same time
This lot looked like reprobates, deviants, degenerates, prostitutes, pimps and destitutes
Some looked like p**** movie directors
Some looked like they'd passed their sell-by date
These people looked used, we're talking U-S-E-D
These people looked like reminded of me of me
I couldn't explain it
I couldn't accept
I was standing there
I was feeling vulnerable
I'd been here before
I had to find out more
I went deeper into the pit
The further I went down, the stranger things got.
It seemed to me that every drug known to man and some not were being passed around in vast quantities
But there was no money.
Welcome to the Freak Show!
Welcome to the Freak Show!
Welcome to the Freak Show!
Everybody is welcome!
The music was unbearably loud
The heat was stiflingly hot
The pressure getting far too much to bear
Things had now reached boiling point
Everybody was right up to means to an end
The lights went off and the next three minutes brought a pandemonium, hysteria, push and shove
I was knocked to the floor
When the lights came back on
I was the only one left standing.
I was at a bit of a loose end
